The City of Grass Valley selected a planning team to prepare the Colfax Avenue Infill Study to revitalize an area extending along the Colfax Avenue corridor, from Highway 20/49 east to Park Street. The study was the culmination of the efforts of City staff, community members, and the consultant team to craft an urban design plan that would reconnect and revive the economy of the historic, old-town center.
In order to accomplish this objective, the Infill Study, containing a Concept Plan for the corridor, proposed potential sites for: new infill development, greening of the streetscape, District entry statements, improvements to increase pedestrian safety, increased parking opportunities, and increased connectivity with downtown Grass Valley.
The Infill Study established a new identity for the Colfax Avenue District by creating a more pedestrian friendly environment, providing incentives to intensify the mix of uses, and upgrading the aesthetic appeal of the area.
