As the original executive architect-of-record, Mitch Conner, then with RMW Architecture + Interiors, worked on Phase One of the Carneros Inn. He designed the luxury project to satisfy existing land use policies that permitted a mobile home park by utilizing prefabricated dwelling units.
The architectural concept consisted of simple board and batten construction with corrugated metal-clad roofing to reflect the character of the region and the historic look of traditional farming camps. Major public buildings in the area are stick built, barn-like structures with roof monitors that admit light into the high open interior spaces while providing ventilation.
This project consisted of 86 individual guest cottages, 24 private residences, an apple orchard, and private gardens for each guest as well as the development of the hilltop section of the property that includes the reception area, guest living room, the Hilltop dining room, spa and an infinity-edge pool overlooking the Carneros appellation. Additionally, the project included infrastructure barns (water and wastewater) as well as the Boon Fly Café.
Our involvement included Strategic Planning, Design and Planning, and Construction, and helped The Carneros Inn win Professional Builder Magazine's "Best in American Living" award, Congress for New Urbanism "Charter Award," and a National Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects for "Excellence in Urban Design."
